The Paderborn/Lippstadt airport (3-letter-code: PAD) lies about 20 km southwest of Paderborn. International flights are reachable via flights to Munich operated by Lufthansa City Line. International airports of Düsseldorf (3-letter-code: DUS) and Frankfurt (3-letter-code: FRA) are reachable by train within 2h and 4h, respectively. Other regional airports are located in Dortmund (90 km), Münster/Osnabrück (80 km) and Hannover (150 km).
From Paderborn/Lippstadt airport, one can take a taxi (journey time 25 minutes, ~35€) or bus No. 400/460 towards Paderborn main station (Hauptbahnhof), and then bus No. 11 towards Thuner Siedlung, getting off at the MuseumsForum stop (journey time 50 minutes).
Paderborn is located directly on the IC/ICE routes Düsseldorf-Hamm-Kassel-Erfurt-Dresden and Cologne-Munich. Furthermore, there are good regional connections to the IC/ICE train stations Bielefeld, Dortmund, Hamm, Kassel and Hannover. Train connections are operated by the Deutsche Bahn.

The motorway 33 (A 33), which connects the A 2 (Ruhr-Hannover) and the A 44 (Dortmund-Kassel), leads to Paderborn. The city can also be reached via federal roads: the B 64 (from Höxter, Bad Driburg as well as Münster, Rheda-Wiedenbrück); the B 68 (from Warburg, Kassel); the B 1 (from Hameln, Detmold and Soest, Geseke) and via the B 480 (from Brilon).
